Apache Design Solutions Named Finalist in Two Categories in EDN Magazine's 2003 Innovation of the Year Awards Competition
Apache's R&D Team named finalist for "Innovator of the Year"; RedHawk-SDL is finalist in "EDA Physical Analysis" category MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - February 5, 2003 - Apache Design Solutions Inc. has been selected from a field of hundreds as a finalist in two categories for this year's EDN Innovator/Innovation Awards. This exclusive awards program honors truly outstanding electronic products ranging from integrated circuits to test equipment-as well as the creative engineers who invent them. EDN's technical editors selected finalists in each category.
Apache's founding R&D team (Shen Lin, Norman Chang, Weize Xie, and Yu Liu) is one of four finalists, and the only EDA team, in the "Innovator of the Year" category. Apache's team is the first EDA team in seven years to be nominated in this category. The Innovator of the Year Award honors an engineer, engineering manager, or team of engineering professionals that have demonstrated innovation that resulted in a significant advance in technology or product development during the past year. Apache's RedHawk-SDL is one of four finalists in the "EDA Physical Analysis" category. RedHawk-SDL, the first full-chip dynamic (transient) power integrity solution for system-on-chip (SoC) design, has been silicon-proven in multiple tapeouts including a 90nm DSP design. RedHawk-SDL provides the first-of-its-kind Vectorless Dynamic™ solution based on switching and propagation statistics, instead of vectors, for full-chip coverage. RedHawk-SDL delivers SoC capacity with transistor-level accuracy, correlated extensively by customers with silicon measurements and detailed SPICE supply noise waveforms. Andrew Yang, Apache president and CEO, said, "The technical vision, perseverance, and execution -- by such a small team with limited resources and time, on such a complex problem -- are astounding. I am proud that both the team and the product are being recognized. I expect the impact of our innovation will be significant on nanometer SoC designs for many years to come." "We had an outstanding set of entries to our Innovation program," said EDN Editor-in-Chief Maury Wright. "The chosen finalists should be proud of their selection because many worthy products barely missed the cut. I look forward to meeting with all of the participants at the awards banquet." In the next few weeks, EDN's worldwide audience of electronics engineers and engineering managers will use an online ballot to select the ultimate winners from among these finalists. EDN's editorial staff and the EDN Editorial Advisory Board also take part in determining the final winners. Visit www.edn.com/innovation to review each of the nominees. Winners will be announced at a ceremony on March 29 in San Francisco. About EDNEDN, the premier design magazine of the electronics industry, is published by Reed Business Information. About Apache Design SolutionsApache is an EDA software supplier of innovative next-generation silicon integrity platforms for low-power, high-performance system-on-a-chip (SoC) designs. By considering all sources of noise that impacts the design, such as power, signal, package / system IO, substrate, and temperature, Apache’s silicon signoff platform enables designers of leading networking, wireless, communication, consumer, and semiconductor companies to detect, fix, and prevent design weaknesses that can result in reduced yield or failed silicon. Apache’s vendor neutral platform enables designers to adopt any industry’s standard physical design flow and is certified by TSMC’s 5.0 and 6.0 Reference Flow (NYSE: TSM). Apache has direct sales and support offices worldwide with over 40 customers, including 7 of the top 10 semiconductor companies.
